Gull Lake boys’ basketball falls to 0-2

Going into the Lakeview game, Gull Lake was expecting to leave with a win.  After their loss in the season opener, the Blue Devils looked to turn their slow start around with a win over the Spartans.

The Blue Devils started out hot, led by Dean Kolstad and went into halftime winning 22-21.  After three quarters, the game was tied at 35.  Gull Lake was not able to hang with the Spartans in the fourth quarter as junior center Donald Ernsberger ended the game with 29 points, as Lakeview went on to win 62-46.  Dean Kolstad led the Blue Devils with 13 points, followed by Odell Miller with 11.

“We did alright at the beginning; we just didn’t finish.  That’s something were working on,” junior team member MJ Jones said after the game.

Although the Blue Devils are not having the best experience, they have one of the youngest rosters Gull Lake has had in a long time.  Starting two juniors, the Blue Devils have nine junior players to only six seniors.  The Blue Devils take on Middleville Thornapple-Kellogg on Tuesday, December 11.  They’re expecting a big win to shift their momentum for the season.
