Gull Lake boys hand Battle Creek Central their first loss
After a 1-2 start for Gull Lake, seeing Battle Creek Central on their schedule was not something to cheer about. Battle Creek Central, starting off 3-0, hadn’t had a real competition yet. The Blue Devils had only beaten a weak Thornapple-Kellogg team and many people were not expecting Gull Lake to pull this one off.
Gull Lake started out hot, ending the first quarter, tied with a very strong offensive BCC team at 11. The Blue Devils kept up the fast pace and led at half time 19-16, holding BCC to only 5 points in the second quarter.
“We played fast from the start. We knew we had to if we were going to stop central. They were quick and played physical,” junior center Odell Miller said.
Gull Lake pulled away at the end, taking the game 45-37. The Blue Devils were led by Dean Kolstad with 25 points, followed by Odell Miller with 7. Kolstad and Miller also dominated the board, picking up 12 rebounds each. Miller now averages 10.25 rebounds per game. Kolstad is averaging 21 points per game.
Gull Lake travels to Portage Northern on Thursday, December 20, hoping to bring their record above .500.

Gull Lake center Odell Miller shoots a free throw Friday, December 14 home win over Battle Creek Central.
