The Gull Lake Youth Basketball Association has been providing an opportunity for young athletes to learn and play the game of basketball for over 20 years. Last Saturday, March 18, GLYBA finished off yet another season.
Gull Lake varsity basketball players are the primary officials for GLYBA and strongly support the youth organization.
“It’s a great thing for these kids who want to learn the game and play with their peers,” senior Nate Wargolet said. “I played GLYBA from first grade until sixth grade and it was a great experience to play with my friends and improve my game.”
Teams practice once or twice a week and play on Saturdays, playing nine games in the season. Players range from grades 1st to 6th and compete against those of the same age.
“This season was pretty great I think,” Wargolet said. “It was cool to see the kids gradually get better and better from week to week.”
With this year in the books, the players, coaches and officials will look forward to participating again next season.
- This is my third year on staff, my second as Sports Editor. I am a senior at Gull Lake and plan to attend the University of Alabama next year and major in accounting. I play basketball and baseball and was selected as captain of the varsity basketball team for the coming season. I have a passion for sports and writing about them and look forward to a great year of writing.
