Last Thursday, September 25, Mattawan hosted the yearly rivalry game against the Gull Lake’s boys’ Soccer team. Last year, the game was held at home, and Gull Lake lost in extra time.

Gull Lake only ended up scoring one goal and Mattawan scored three. Mattawan came out right away and scored twice in the first 15 minutes.

“We didn’t come into the game ready. After the two goals really woke us up, we started to take control of the game,” senior center back Conner Barnes said.

The Gull Lake team started taking control of the possession and the pace of the game after sophomore Jacob Louden scored the first and only goal of the game for Gull Lake

“It was an amazing shot. He turned around and banged it with his left foot in the upper left corner,” Barnes said.

Later in the contest, Mattawan scored their last goal by shooting a longshot and chipping the keeper to put the game on ice.
