Gull Lake’s boys’ varsity soccer team hosted Portage Central on Thursday, September 28. After 80 minute of soccer it ended in a tie 1-1. Within the first five minutes Gull Lake got their goal on a cross into the box where freshman Jacob Louden put the ball into the side netting.

“It was a goal that we really needed and I think getting that goal as early as we did really helped us in the game because of the confidence it gave us,” said junior captain Zach Reed.

“We played very defensive because of how good Portage’s attack was,” Reed said.

Portage Central was the second ranked team in Division 1. Part of the reason they were ranked number two  was their ability to score.

“Kaden [goalkeeper] really kept us in the game; he was constantly making unreal saves,” Reed said.

Kaden ended being the man of the match and Reed thought it was well deserved.

Within the last 5 minutes of the game Portage Central tied the game with a top bins header.
