A freshman recently won the Battle Creek Enquirer’s Athlete of the week beating out three other great athletes. That freshman is Koby Fraaza who runs varsity cross country for the Blue Devils.

As the only freshman on the list, he received 15,773 votes which was 41 percent of all votes.

I feel humbled for the recognition and very grateful for all the support,” Fraaza said.

He has the ninth-best time in the state for freshman this year with his race at the Lakeview Invitational where he ran a personal best of 16 minutes and 28.5 seconds.

Fraaza also runs track along with cross country for Gull Lake and is a very competitive runner and always looking for that first place spot, to help his

team achieve victory. Most recently, Fraaza finished third at the SMAC East Division Jambolee.

Fraaza said he trains hard to be great at running. He also eats healthy as a way to give his body energy throughout the day.

“I like setting goals for myself and striving to beat them, and being part of a great team,” he said. “I run every day, eat a healthy diet, and drink lots of water,”

He said that he wasn’t nervous running with the upperclassmen and made some good friends.

“I was at first; however, I’ve made some great friends,” he said.

Fraaza will continue to train to get that first place spot and has a goal of running both track and cross country in college.
