The Gull Lake equestrian team recently competed in the state competition at the Midland County Fairgrounds.

Sophomore rider Marissa King completed her second year of competing for the Gull Lake equestrian team.

“It’s a lot of fun. I enjoy the people, and I’ve gotten closer to my horse, Cap,” King said. “I’m glad I joined last year and had more time to put towards equestrian since dropping gymnastics.”

Hoping to have a good showing at states, King said she and team put in extra practice.

“My team and I were practicing much more than usual. I was there nearly every day,” King said.

At states, King competed in showmanship, English bareback and speed,; placing second, fourth and fifth respectively.

“We did very well overall,” said King.

This year the Equestrian team placed eighth out of ten teams at state competition.
