Holiday Concert brings joy once again

Throughout the year the Gull Lake High School bands perform several times. During second trimester on December 21 in the high school gym, the annual  Christmas Concert will take place.

“The overall mood for this concert would have to be joyful,”  said Victoria LaBara, a clarinet section leader in Concert band. During the concert the student musicians wear ugly christmas sweaters, rather than their traditional black dress.

Symphonic band and Concert band, both led by director Brandon Burris, will be performing songs separately. However as tradition, both bands together will play “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson.

Concert band will be playing the 3-minute version of The Nutcracker by Pyotr II’Yick Tchaikovsky, and “African Bell Carol” by Robert W. Smith. Symphonic band is playing; “O’ Holy Night” by Paul Clark and “Dreidel Dance” by Robert Thurston.

“[The band] will be working very hard in the next month to make sure everyone is ready,” LaBara said. “This is because we have new students coming in during 2nd trimester.”
