Tuesday, December 5, the Gull Lake varsity basketball team travelled to Otsego to take on the Bulldogs. Coming into the game, Gull Lake was fully behind their new head coach and looked to start the new era of Gull Lake basketball. Riding some momentum from a scrimmage a couple days before, Gull Lake came into the game confident.

Starting the first quarter, the game was a dogfight. Both teams had gone back and forth getting defensive stops or buckets. Otsego came out with the press, but Gull Lake was able to break it and get into their halfcourt sets. The score at the end of the first quarter 10-11.

Starting the second quarter, the story of the game was the same. The game was back and forth both teams getting a bucket after the other. The quarter finished and the game went to halftime with the game tied at 26.

In the third quarter, Otsego went on a seven point run and took a lead on the Blue Devils. Otsego kept the lead for most of the quarter but a late run by the Blue Devils brought the deficit down to only one point. 41-42, Bulldogs.

The fourth quarter was very back and forth with many last minute efforts by both teams. The Blue Devils led during a short period but a three pointer by Otsego gave the lead back to the Bulldogs. In the last few minutes, Gull Lake tied the game with two free throws but were unable to get a stop on defense fouling and letting the game come down to free throws. The game ended with a turnover and the clocks hitting zero: 58-59, Bulldogs win.

“We felt really good throughout the whole game, and we all thought we had the dub. But we just came up short in the end,” senior Dominik Mastromatteo said.

The leading scorers for the game were Mastromatteo with 18 points, and senior Ryan McMullen with 14. The Blue Devils take on the Knights from Loy Norrix in their next game on December
