Peppermint vs. Eggnog

0 votes

In the battle of festive flavors, it’s clear that peppermint rises to the top in all areas–besting eggnog in flavor, versatility and holiday spirit.

Even considering taste alone, peppermint defeats eggnog without a doubt. Both sweet and light, peppermint cools the palate, providing a delicate and fresh alternative to dense and fattening eggnog. Not only that, the essence of the flavor lingers long after being consumed, leaving pleasant smelling breath that lasts for hours.

Not only that, peppermint pairs perfectly with other flavors and dishes. Peppermint candy canes can be used to stir hot chocolate, melting perfectly into the wintery brew. Peppermint cookies, peppermint mochas, peppermint bark and peppermint gum, just to name a few minty concoctions, all demonstrate the versatility of the holiday candy–not to mention the wonder that is peppermint stick ice cream. Eggnogg, which is rarely transformed into something other than a beverage, is therefore boring and plain.

Peppermint candies, and in particular peppermint candy canes, even have a book written about them, called The Legend of the Candy Cane. In the children’s book, the candy maker explains the symbolism that relates candy canes back to the meaning of Christmas. The shape of the confection, the book explains, is in the form of a J for Jesus and, if turned the other way, represents a shepherd’s staff. The red and white stripes represent Christ’s sinless nature and his sacrifice for all who believe.

No one’s written a book about eggnog

Eggnog is a holiday favorite around this time of year. Eggnog conquers peppermint with its unique taste and texture The drink, historically known as egg-milk punch, is usually made with eggs, milk, cream, and sugar. Cinnamon and nutmeg are often added as well, but anyone can tailor it to his/her liking by simply adding whichever ingredients make it taste the best.

The yellowish, thick beverage soothes the throat on the way down, giving it a different texture, almost like a smoothie without ice, then most beverages. That texture and unique taste give eggnog the upper hand when it comes to the ultimate holiday beverage.

The best part about eggnog is that it’s often homemade. The ability blend it to anyone’s liking makes eggnog the best Christmastime beverage of all. Eggnogs freshness and great taste make it a soothing drink. The different color and texture of the drink also give a unique look and that makes it awesome.
