With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, students at Gull Lake are gearing up for the big day. Some people get chocolate, some get flowers, and some students receive a carnation on this national holiday.

The student senate has been selling carnations for nearly 10 years around Valentine’s Day.  Each carnation includes a flower with a ribbon and a little tag that has a message written by the sender. Carnations are sold for $2 for one carnation or $5 for a total of three.

Student Senate member, sophomore Bailey Mougalian, gave some information on the carnations the Senate will be selling for Valentines Day.

“We will have a table up during lunch where you can go buy a carnation,” Mougalian said. “The reason we sell carnations is to put a smile on someone’s face when they receive their carnation.”

Mougalian said that by purchasing a carnation, the buyer is donating money to for National Alliance on Mental Illness.

“This should make the buyer feel good about their purchase and that is is going to charity,” she said.
