On Thursday, March 1 at 7 p.m. Michigan author Jack Cheng will speak at Richland Community Library regarding his novel See You in the Cosmos.

According to Penguin Random House, See You in the Cosmos focuses on a space-obsessed boy and his dog, Carl Sagan, who both take a journey toward “family, love, hope, and awe” in this funny and moving novel for fans of Counting by 7s and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

Cheng’s visit is part of the Meet Michigan Authors Program is funded by Friends of the Richland Library, Gull Lake Rotary, and the Croasdale Family.

Many factors will influence how many people show up, anything from community interest, popularity of an author, weather, or another even scheduled at the same time,” said teen librarian Jenni Chase. “We have had 75+ show up and we have as few as 10 or so, there is no way to really predict the turnout.”

According to Chase, the audience size may have an effect on the discussion topics.

“Normally the author will talk about the book itself, their inspiration, their writing process, etc,” Chase said. ‘It is also very audience driven. There is usually a question and answer session.”

Chase stated the discussion is usually based on the audience’s interests.

Along will Cheng’s novel presentation, books will be for sale and fans will have the opportunity to have copies signed.
