On May 2 and 3, the Kalamazoo based improvisation group Crawlspace Eviction will be visiting Gull Lake High School.

“They are going to be working with about 10 sections of students, and those are going to be chosen by teachers,” said GLHS Media Specialist Karen McConnell.

The group includes two sets of improv instructors who will be demonstrating with 15 students each. One grouping will be working in the black box (drama room) as the other meets in the media center (library).

“The students were chosen by teachers, like debate, drama, some of the family consumer science classes, students who would benefit from that kind of workshop,” McConnell said.

After an improv demonstration, students will be given the opportunity to try out the techniques they learn and participate in exercises.

Crawlspace Eviction is being brought in by the Gull Lake Community Schools Foundation as part of the Sparks Series.

“The Sparks Series used to be called the Distinguished Speakers Series,” McConnell said. “The Foundation started this years ago to bring inspirational people to the district.”

Sounds pretty cool! I wish that they would have given students the option to sign up, though. I’m not taking any of those classes currently (I will be next year) but I still would have enjoyed participating. Hopefully they come back next year.
