All school in the Gull Lake Community Schools district will be closed on Tuesday, June 5 after receiving multiple threats of violence at Gull Lake Middle School.

The threats have been made verbally and through graffiti found on a desk and in a bathroom.

GLCS Superintendent Chris Rundle sent out a call to parents on Monday, June 6 and posted the message on the Gull Lake Community Schools website regarding the threats, and how they will be handled.

“At Gull Lake Middle School (GLMS) over the past week we have identified three occasions of inappropriate verbal comments made in reference to violence against peers,” Rundle said. “These comments did not specify shootings at GLMS.  These students have all received appropriate discipline.”

The administration in the district have been working with local police to keep students safe and investigate the threats.

“We have also investigated two occasions of graffiti at GLMS, one in the boys bathroom and a second on a classroom desk,” Rundle said. “Both of these writings have referenced guns at GLMS on June 5.”

According to Rundle, they have not been able to positively identify who wrote the messages and are continuing to investigate.

To ensure safety all schools in the district have been closed on Tuesday, June 5 with Added Advantage Child Care and all after school activities being cancelled as well.

“MHSAA regional competitions at other sites will continue as planned,” Rundle said.

The GLHS senior awards assembly scheduled for 8:30 a.m. will be cancelled and combined with the ceremony occurring in the evening on June 5 at Grace Spring Bible Church at 7 p.m. Law enforcement will be present during the ceremony at Grace Spring.

“School will reopen on June 6 district wide with an increased police presence for the remainder of the school year,” Rundle said.
