PAC prepares to spook audiences with ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’

The Gull Lake Performing Arts Company (PAC) will be performing a stage adaptation of the classic gothic story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, by Washington Irving, on November 9 and 10 at 7 p.m. and again on November 11 at 2 p.m.  The script, written by John Heimbuch, was selected by PAC director Lisa Ouellette.

The show is centered around Ichabod Crane, an awkward, gawky, but lovable school teacher and his attempts to win the heart of Katrina Van Tassel. However, the town of Sleepy Hollow is home to some rather supernatural phenomenon, which makes the task of wooing the debutante even more difficult.

The play’s execution requires a lot of hard work and dedication from both the actors and the technical crews.

“I think the show is progressing nicely,” GLHS senior Madisyn Brown said.

“It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it,” Brown said.

The stage crew, along with costuming, lighting, props, set, sound, media, management and the acting have worked simultaneously to ensure that the show runs smoothly.

Auditions for the show occurred on September 17 and 18, and call-backs were made shortly after. Since then, actors and tech have sacrificed hours of their free time for nearly 10 weeks to give audiences a good show.

Tickets for the play will be sold for $5 at the door of the high school.

“I want to go see the show to support my friends in PAC,” senior Mia Tucci said.

I'm a senior at Gull Lake High School and this is my first year on The Reflection staff, so I guess you could call me a newspaper newbie. I joined the newspaper sort of on a whim because I wanted to put the skills I learned in Multimedia and Reporting to work, but I'm here to stay and enjoy the ride. I like to write feature articles because I love the facet of newspaper that is giving people an outlet to speak their minds.
