If Gull Lake students are looking for a good way to polish up their bowling skills, “Bowling Buddies” is an excellent way to do so. Unified Champion Schools Bowling, the official name for Bowling Buddies, occurs every other week on Thursday starting at 5:30 and going until 6:30.

The event is held at Richland Lanes and those participating will pay no fee at the door. Upcoming Bowling Buddies dates are December 13, January 10, February 7, and February 21.

Participants would be bowling in smaller groups consisting of Tasha Harrison’s students and middle school kids as well.

At these events, there are usually two to three teachers along with student buddies to support the players, Harrison’s students, each week. Students will bowl with their buddies and others for a total of one to two games.

Previous bowling buddies have really enjoyed their experiences.

“It’s a really good way to help the kids and bond and get to know them,” junior Marissa King said.

For Gull Lake students, Bowling Buddies can “teach [Mrs. Harrison’s students] good mannerisms like being encouraging while also doing something fun like bowling,” King said.

Beyond being encouraging, it refreshes an important message in the mind of Harrison’s students and buddies alike.

“Knowing that you don’t have to win or be the best to have a good time,” King said.

An added incentive to participate in the Bowling Buddies experience are the volunteer hours available for current National Honor Society students; in which they will be able to record an hour and a half of service for bowling with their buddies.

I’m a senior at Gull Lake High School, and this is my first year on staff. I enjoy writing about our school sports’ programs and other areas as well. Having a deep interest and enjoyment in our English classes at Gull Lake, I’ve decided to pursue a different side of writing by doing newspaper and hope to provide entertaining articles for our viewers. Being involved in sports such as cross country and track, while also being invested to clubs such as Debate and Model UN, I write about topics that affect both myself and classmates.
