Gull Lake Varsity Cheer team is on a roll, from being one of the most struggling at the beginning of this season to making it to the Cheer district finals. Gull Lake’s cheer team has always been in the running with the top cheer programs in the conference. Earlier errors in the season like missed steps and dropping the jumper were corrected, and the team staged a comeback.
“Everyone doubted us and that kind of brought us motivation on becoming the best that we could be,” senior cheer captain Hannah Elwell said.
Elwell said hhe cheer team got the motivation that they needed and became the second best in the SMAC or South Michigan Athletic Conference, losing by nine points to Portage Central Mustangs.
“I was very worried about how our season was going to turn out, but for my last time ever going to be cheering for Gull Lake,” said senior Cheer team member Brooklyn Dunfield. “I am very proud of our outcome and I’m going to miss this sport more and more everyday.”
