On April 24, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. the Gull Lake High School eSports Club will be holding a tournament for Super Smash Brothers Ultimate in the Media Center. Anyone who attends will be allowed to participate for a small fee.

It is free to come and watch the event, while entry to play will be $5 per participant. Concessions, mainly pizza, will be provided as well at $1 per slice.

The tournament will be a 1vs1 double elimination seeded bracket. This means that everyone will be paired up with an initial opponent. If you win, you advance as normal. If you lose, you are sent to the losers’ bracket and you have to play against others who also lost their first match. If you win there, you remain in the tournament. If you lose, you are eliminated and barred from competing in the tournament again.

The team is holding the tournament to raise funds for themselves.

“Through Esports, we hope to help students achieve a chance at a higher education through competing in a rapidly expanding sports scene. We provide players with a way to express themselves and learn key life skills such as teamwork, communication, and most importantly having fun,” said Isaac Cochran, leader of the Super Smash Bros. team.
