His love for playing guitar started with playing the popular video game Guitar Hero. Austin Richard Post, more famously known as Post Malone, is a rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer. He started his career in 2015 with his debut single “White Iverson,” which reached over one million views in just a month. He gained a lot of attention from record labels where he then signed with Republic Records according to Hot New Hip Hop. His song “Celebration,” featuring Quavo, was Post’s first top-ten song to reach the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 8. On December 9, 2016 Post released his debut album, Stoney which featured lots of different artists like, Justin Bieber, Quavo and 2 Chainz.
In February 2017, he announced his album called Beerbongs and Bentleys, which was due to be released that December (2017), before being pushed back to early 2018. Later that year, in September, he released the first single of the album “rockstar,” featuring 21 Savage. The song reached the Billboard’s Hot 100 #1 spot for 8 consecutive weeks according to Billboard. In February of 2018, Post announced his new song with Ty Dolla Sign titled “Psycho”. The song debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Top 100, which was his third entry into the top 10. This new album had lots of different styles of music with drastic different elements. All of which are very good songs. There are 17 tracks on the album, clocking in at 51minutes worth of music.
I feel like [in Los Angeles] a lot of people want to be somebody, and they’ll use every last piece out of you to better themselvesPost said in a Beats 1 interview.
The first song on the album is “Hollywood’s Bleeding,” where Post talks about his thoughts on Hollywood, and how toxic the environment is. “I feel like [in Los Angeles] a lot of people want to be somebody, and they’ll use every last piece out of you to better themselves” said Post in an interview with Beats 1. The second track is “Saint-Tropez,” this song has a funky trap beat that talks about designer brands and his work ethic. It is one of my personal favorites on the album. Skipping to the fourth track on the album which is “Allergic,” and is another one of my favorites. It’s different from a lot of his other songs and it is very well done. In the song it has hard hitting drums and an energetic beat, but also has a slow guitar in the chorus. The ninth song on the album is called “Take What You Want,” which features Ozzy Osbourne and a very dramatic guitar solo. This track also talks about Los Angeles and how toxic it is and also on Post’s past relationship along with Osbourne’s. This song has a great dynamic between the two and Osbourne’s guitar solo ties in very nicely. All in all this album was very well done. Post shows different emotions and talks about certain things in his life while having a very creative flow to it.
Along with this new album, he announced the Runaway Tour with Swae Lee. Post will be stopping at 64 spots in the United States, three in Canada and eight in Europe. Dispersed through three legs. Starting in Tacoma, Washington and concluding in London, England.
On February 12, Post Malone, Swae Lee and Tyla Yaweh performed in Grand Rapids at the Van Andel Arena.
Tyla Yaweh opened with “I Think I Luv Her” and was very energetic on stage. Swae Lee followed with “Unforgettable,” “Hopeless Romantic” and “Sunflower.” Last on stage was Post with a very dramatic entrance with pulsating lights and many smoke machines. He started with “Hollywood Bleeding,” the intro to his newest album, and walked out to “Congratulations,” which was one of his first hit songs. Post played a wide variety of songs from all of his albums with exciting visuals and light shows to go with. He also played the acoustic version of his song “Stay” off of the Beerbongs and Bentleys album. Which he then proceeded to smash the guitar that he used on stage. They all did a very good job up on stage and were all very energetic.
