This year is a typical track season as Gull Lake High School except all athletes participating are now required to get a weekly Covid test. Students are required to do this every Sunday between 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. To participate, team members must to do a swab inside their noses, and if they test positive, they will be informed.
Track team member senior Trent Stoner said he thinks it’s a good idea to test athletes every week because it ensures the safety of all athletes running track.
“It allows for us to know if anyone has Covid and keeps all the athletes safe so we can continue our track season,” Stoner said.
Senior Lane Smith said he also agrees with it and likes how he doesn’t have to worry about coming in contact with anyone on the track that has Covid.
“I like the new test policy,” Smith said. “It makes me feel more safe because if they test positive then they can’t compete which means I won’t have to worry about coming in contact with someone who has Covid.”
Most of the athletes on the team are in support of the new weekly testing and have no problem doing it if it means all athletes are safe and Covid free.
